Back in the 90s, it seemed like the entire population of Britain wanted to be a drum n bass DJ. Practically everyone and their mum was spinning up the bass-heavy dance music genre in clubs throughout the U.K., and making a mint while doing so. Kevin Ford, also known as DJ Hype, was one of those blokes.
After debuting in 1989, the London-born artist quickly rose to fame, representing Britain at the European DMC championships that year. Two decades later, he won a lifetime achievement award at The National DnB Awards.
Ford refined his style through frequent radio broadcasts, and helped keep the genre alive through countless mixes on his vanity label, Ganja Beats. Hes just as active on stage as he is behind the scenes, appearing at international tours and major festivals like the annual Electric Daisy Carnival.
DJ Hype will be the featured guest at UK Thursdays during the weekly DnB and dubstep nights edition on Thursday, June 30, at School of Rock, 411 South Mill Avenue.
