What we see on lawns lately falls mostly into the categories of decorated trees and shrubs, deflated Santas, and nativity scenes of varying authenticity and artistry. So the blue-and-white-striped circus tent next to Chandler Center for the Arts is sure to attract attention.
It's the site of Zoppé, an Italian circus that's been performing since 1842 (not with the very same people -- though you have to admit that'd be extra-amazing). Intimate and cheerful, with one ring and 500 seats, the troupe features acrobats, clowns, adorable trained dogs, and equestrian acts. Sounds like a fun diversion indeed.
On Thursday, December 27, the circus will perform an abbreviated 11 a.m. matinee suitable for very young children (or anyone who would prefer only 70 minutes of circus). Regular shows resume at 7 p.m. that evening through Saturday, January 5, including a special New Year's Eve Under the Big Top event.
