1. Silent Auction at the Ceramic Research Center
Place your bid -- ASU's Ceramic Research Center is hosting a silent auction on pieces by local, national, and international artists through this weekend. (We have our eye on a piece by local artist Mike Prepsky, pictured above.) In conjunction with the CRC annual gala, the auctions will be held at the Ceramic Research Center in Tempe and a "super secret" auction will be held the Bentley Projects in downtown Phoenix on Saturday night. All bidding at the CRC closes on Saturday at 2 p.m.. More info here.
2. The Truth Hurts (especially when you have an iPhone)
Spanish designer Nico Ordozgoiti has an iPhone, so he knows well enough the pitfalls of texting and walking, how easily a smooth, rounded-edged phone is to drop, and how easily it is to find yourself down a rabbit hole of technology with no one around. His wallpapers, made for iPhones are available here.
Sophie Blackall spent hours trolling the missed connections on Craigslist -- but not because she had one to share. The New York-based artist is on an ongoing mission to illustrate found stories of love, loss, and serendipity in her book and blog, Missed Connections. "Every day hundreds of strangers reach out to other strangers on the strength of a glance, a smile or a blue hat," she writes. "Their messages have the lifespan of a butterfly. I'm trying to pin a few of them down."
