First Friday in Phoenix: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Three signs of a good First Friday: Finished/Live art on display, paint on pants, shirts, and faces, and festive entertainment.

It's not often that we take a look at the style of artists and art fans around town, but when First Friday in downtown Phoenix rolls around, an entire subculture emerges.

Like we've said in our Field Guides, First Fridays are more often about people watching and shenanigans than actual art. So this week, let's take a look at both ... The Good's above, the Bad and the Ugly are after the jump, and our full slideshow is right here.

Two signs of a bad First Friday: lines for face painting a la State Fair (it was right down the street, people!) and the semi-nonsensical use of the peace sign.

One sign of an ugly First Friday: Um... I'm trying to see the galleries, but the bloody, seran wrapped woman is blocking the entire path. Gross.
