Arizonas current and former politicians are making a name for themselves and its not one that wed repeat in polite company. Former Arizona governor Janet Napolitano legalized airport grope sessions; while Jan Brewers busy provoking state tourism boycotts and slashing funds from schools while cutting more big business tax breaks.
Artist Lori Cowherd takes a tongue-in-cheek look at Napolitano, (complete with blue-gloved hands probing her lumpy body) and other politicos in Investigate, on display through May 15 at Level 9 Gallery in Cave Creek. The show features 12 satirical oil portraits of modern political leaders, including Alan Greenspan and Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke.
Cowherd was inspired to return to painting when the economic downslide took some of her graphic design workload with it. Im not a radical flag-burner. Im just hip to [political] agendas, she says. People need to make an effort to look at whats going on; they need to get a little uncomfortable.
