Now, the Keep Phoenix Beautiful workshops have found a new home: Burton Barr Central Library.
"We now have a great collaboration with Phoenix Public Library, which is a great fit for these workshops," says Nicole Underwood, spokesperson for Keep Phoenix Beautiful.
The organization is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, a national program whose mission is to promote the preservation and protection of our environment. Locally, that happens by way of recycling, litter reduction, beautification, community improvement, and education initiatives such as these gardening workshops.
Hour-long workshops on various topics have been scheduled through May 2017. Sometimes lectures and other times hands-on, the courses will touch on plant selection, watering, and other topics tailored to desert dwellers. The classes will be led by Keep Phoenix Beautiful program manager Mary Lu
The first workshop kicked off on Saturday, March 18,and provided an overview of the principles of xeriscaping. Three more will be held in April and in May.
On Thursday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m., participants will learn how to select the right plants for their landscape. On Saturday, April 29, at 9:30 a.m., there will be a workshop on watering alternatives to the
