"Animal Signs": Barbara Hofflander of Desert Botanical Garden, 1201 North Galvin Parkway, in Papago Park, leads kids and their folks on a tour of the garden and points out various telltale markings left by nonhuman visitors. The walk steps off at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 18. Participation is free with regular admission: $7, $6 for seniors, $1 for youngsters ages 5 to 12, free for younger children and members. SuperBone Sunday: Arizona Veterinary Medical Association sponsors the second annual celebration for pups and their owners, featuring races and retrieval events, a dog fair and a costume contest. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 19, at Chaparral Park, 5401 North Hayden in Scottsdale. Proceeds benefit the AVMA's spay/neuter program. For details call 966-3555.

"My Future in the Global Community": The exhibit features works by students from Scottsdale and its sister cities of Kingston, Ontario, Canada; Cairns, Queensland, Australia; and Alamos, Sonora, Mexico. Saturday Performing Arts Series: The City of Tempe sponsors the series, which introduces youngsters to the fine arts. It continues at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 18, with a program titled "Malcolm Daldish: The Wild, Wild Word Show." The scene is Edna Vihel Activity Building, 3340 South Rural. "Afterschool Special": Mesa Public Library, 64 East First Street, hosts this series of educational activities. In "Dragons and Things," slated for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, kids ages 6 to 12 create mixed-media images of the fire-breathing monster and celebrate Chinese New Year by learning about China's version of the zodiac. Laura Ingalls Wilder Club: Third- and fourth-graders are welcome to learn more about the author of the Little House on the Prairie series in this club, which meets at 4 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, at Tempe Public Library, 3500 South Rural. James and the Giant Peach: Valley Youth Theatre, located at the Tower Plaza shopping center, 38th Street and Thomas, presents its version of Roald Dahl's 1961 fantasy about a boy and his inflatable-fruit airship. Arizona Museum for Youth: "Face Value: The Art of Portraiture" features works by Andy Warhol, Rudy Turk, Greg Patrenos, Bill Barnhart and others. It continues through Friday, January 17. The museum, 35 North Robson in Mesa, will be closed Saturday, January 18, through Thursday, February 6, for the installation of its upcoming exhibit, "Elementary, My Dear: An Investigation of Basic Art Elements," which opens Friday, February 7. Regular hours: 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is $2, free for kids under 2. For details call 644-2467.
