When a piece of art or performance is designated as avant-garde it sometimes translates to out-there, off-putting, or intimidating. (Consider Marcel Duchamp's Fountain or dadaism's abstractions of anything and everything.) But, for Trisha Brown Dance Company, avant-garde means pushing the boundaries of what it means to dance in a postmodern scape, studying perception, and duping audiences with seemingly pedestrian choreography that bursts into precise, airborne movement.

When the nine-dancer company performs at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, the daring program will include three original pieces from its active repertory: For M.G.: The Movie, Foray Forêt, and L'Amour au théâtre.
