Chad Reed is the youngest over-the-hill superstar youll see in any sport not called gymnastics. Read just about any preview of this years Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championships, and youll get a strong impression that the two-time winner is in the twilight of his career. Hell, even the circuits official website describes Reed as an elder statesman.
Dude is only 28 years old.
The reason for Reeds sudden aging is the burgeoning youth movement in AMA Supercross. Headlined by defending champion Ryan Dungey, who turned 21 last month, these young stars seem poised to take over the sport.
Whether greybeard Reed can hold off the whippersnappers during the AMAs second race of the season will be determined at Chase Field. The gates open at 12:30 p.m. and the main event starts at 7.
