Ever since seeing the 1969 Oscar-winning Midnight Cowboy in an old singleplex cinema, we’ve argued that big-box theatres need to feed the nostalgia of the cult crowd. But what gives a film cult status? Video sales.

In 2000, the shoot ‘em up indie thriller The Boondock Saints was released in five cities for one measly week. However, the rentals went through the roof, and now, ten years later, the flick will show on the silver screen once again. For one night only, select AMC Theatres present the movie that stars Willem Dafoe as swashy FBI agent Paul Smecker. The film chronicles Irish-Catholic brothers who are bent on destroying a mafia bunch that has infiltrated Boston. The tenth-anniversary screening will also showcase kitschy DVD extras, such as never-before-seen footage with cast, crew, and writer/director Troy Duffy.

The film is also playing at AMC Ahwatukee 24, 4915 East Ray Road; AMC Westgate 20, 9400 West Hanna Drive in Glendale; AMC Mesa Grand 24, 1647 South Stapley Drive; and CineMark Mesa 16, 1051 North Dobson Road.
