If ever there were a soundtrack to Scottsdale, then Top 40 is it. For instance, step into the dazzling danceterias populating Old Towns nightlife district on an average weekend night and youre likely to hear such overplayed Billboard hits as Beyonces Best Thing I Never Had, or Lil Waynes Lollipop repeatedly blasted ad nauseam.
At Afterlife, however, the tunes tend to eschew the Hot 100 in favor of more obscure electronic dance beats, particularly during Thumping Thursdays. A rotating lineup of DJs from throughout the Valleys underground scene work their turntable magic in each of the joints three theme rooms, painting the place with house, trance, drum n bass, and other tracks not typically heard outside of a rave.
Expect plenty of the same during the latest edition of the weekly affair on Thursday, September 29, which will kickoff Afterlifes two-year anniversary weekend. Daniel Gauss of Schwasted and DJ John Blaze will be in command of the sound system, hip-hop artist E-batt is scheduled to perform, and live MC battles will also take place during the evening.
The party runs from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Admission is $5 for girls, $7 for guys until 11 p.m.
