Rockabilly devotees, possibly more than any other dedicated music fans, put the cult in subculture. Daddy-Os and pin-up wannabes nurture time-capsule caricatures of ‘50s rebellion as if their lives depended on it.
And when the Fourth Annual Lake Havasu Rockabilly Reunion descends on the city of the same name, it'll be a proverbial time warp. Pompadoured greasers in brothel creepers and white tees with buxom dollies sporting more tattooed cleavage than a female prison yard will rock it American Graffiti style in the shadow of the London Bridge. But with festivities including a carnival, pin-up pageant, car show, and Memphis-approved live music, this weekend-long event should also lure plenty of squares. If you shed the peepers and join the greasers, you just might be made in the shade.
