There aren't many summer events in Phoenix that include winter in the title; it would seem downright insulting. Especially since, even in the dead of winter, Phoenix really doesn't have one. Heck, when was the last time Johnny Winter came through town? (Take it easy Frankenstein, it's a rhetorical question.) Sure, Alex Winter played Bill S. Preston Esq., and some of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure was filmed in Phoenix, but still. Point is, winter comes in many forms, but none of them come here. That is why the Fourth Annual Beat The Heat Winter Fest is so dang audacious. Offering samples from more than 25 craft breweries, live music, and food from Scottsdale's K.I.S.S. restaurant, if the 21-and-over event can't placate us toasty Phoenicians, it comes chillingly close. Thirty dollars buys 80 ounces of beer samples at the 21-and-over event at Venue Scottsdale, 7117 East Third Avenue, from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 23. 21 and over. Visit www.beattheheatwinterfest.com for details and tickets.
