It's hard to imagine what Cuban and Caribbean food, mixed with a greatest-hits of Asian cuisine, would taste like. Well, what can we say? It's surprisingly delish. And it's not as offbeat as it might sound. Southeast Asian dishes make good use of tropical fruits, while Chinese tradition glorifies the black bean. Cuban cooking agrees on both points, and revels in rice, too. Seafood is another common denominator, and so are chile peppers. And it all gets a toss in the high-style blender at sleek, sexy Asia de Cuba, where elegant presentations of braised beef spring rolls, palomillo of marinated lamb, and Cuban barbecued chicken look like modern art against an all-white background. (Seriously, everything from the sculptures to the servers' uniforms is the color of new-fallen snow.) If this is the upside to globalization, we're all for it.
