It's hard to imagine that the area near this stretch of East Phoenix used to be the country's biggest cattle feedlot, but a visit to The Stockyards — situated in what was once the Tovrea Land and Cattle Company's administrative offices — can take you back in time to an era when ranching was still a big part of the local culture, and the city's movers and shakers did business over hefty steaks and stiff cocktails. Meat and potatoes is still the name of the game here, with exotica like elk and demurely named "calf fries" supplementing steaks, burgers, salads, and seafood dishes. Settle into a big booth, ogle the cowboy-themed paintings and branding iron chandelier, and enjoy a reminder of when the West was still Western.

The minute I enter the Stockyard's I am welcomed, not only by the smiling, courteous staff, but also the charm and warmth of rich, beautiful wood and comfy leather booths. This is old-school goodness, forget about all of the pretense some restaraunts think is so chic - that's not what you get here. What you do get along with hospitality and old west charm is wonderful, cooked to perfection food. The buffalo rib-eye is my all time favorite, the flavors are so concentrated and rich, served with your choice of a classic side, I like the twice baked potato - deliciously mounded with all the right stuff. Whenever we have plans in the downtown area, we always visit the Stockyards for a wonderful meal!

One of our families all time favorite restaurants, The Stockyards never disappoints, and transports you back in time to a Classic Arizona Steakhouse. The food is always right on the mark and the service staff has been their for years and is warm, gracious and efficient! Great historic setting, Western Art collection, and the best steaks and prime rib you'll ever eat!!
