Joe Arpaio's Stooge Mike Stauffer Still in Sheriff's Race, Rumors Aside
Well, it did get his name bandied about the Inter-nets for a minute. Hmmm...
To rip off the great Samuel Langhorne Clemens, reports of Mike Stauffer's demise have been greatly exaggerated.
Finance reports were due in to the county last night, and the Republican-turned-Independent's campaign for sheriff filed a "No Activity Statement," which would normally attest to no expenditures or donations for the time period involved.

However, there was a second report, filed at the same time, which showed that Stauffer's campaign received $425 between September 18 and October 25.
He spent $70.57 for the same period, and has cash on hand of $670.39.
Both reports were on the Maricopa County Elections website, but some folks just looked at the NAS, and saw what they wanted to see.
Dems and just about everyone who dislikes Stauffer's third-wheel candidacy went crazy reposting a link for the NAS.
Hey, big spender...
However, after some prompting by yours truly, Stauffer's campaign Tweeted that filing the NAS was a mistake.
I figured as much, seeing that Stauffer had appeared at an ASU event on Wednesday of this week, and that his Twitter and Facebook accounts remained active. Also, Stauffer's pimp-ess DeeDee Blase continues to predict victory for Stauffer on her TucsonCitizen blog.
Blase put her piggybank where her mouth is during this period, donating a whopping $50 to the Stauffer campaign.
Meaning she may have to forgo this week's pedicure, unless her lawyer hubby wants to add a little to the hausfrau's allowance.
Overall, during his entire campaign, Stauffer has raised $8,793 in direct contributions.
That's not counting the $40,000 he loaned himself to pay for signature gatherers to get him on the ballot.
I'm sure this rumor spread so quickly in part due to wishful thinking by supporters of Democratic candidate for sheriff Paul Penzone.
In addition, Facebook and Twitter are, essentially, a worldwide, online game of "telephone." Rumor and fact are often taken to be one and the same.
Plus, Stauffer's not been much of a campaign presence, which also explains the efficacy of the rumor. Heck, Stauffer's web page probably had a spike in visitors just because of this error.
Thing is, even if Stauffer were to "withdraw" his candidacy, it wouldn't make any difference. His name remains on the ballot, regardless, and people can still vote for him.
In fact, he may be the margin of victory for Arpaio Tuesday night. If so, he'll be the most reviled man in the county, and the butt of more jokes than Olivia Cortes.
Cortes was a dupe. Stauffer, Blase and Stauffer's puppetmaster West Kenyon won't have the luxury of cluelessness. They know exactly what they are doing, but persist, despite the potentially disastrous outcome.
