A couple of weeks back, I blogged on the obscenity of Arizona's business elite feting "Bush's brain" and "war criminal" Karl Rove on November 9 at the Sheraton as part of the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce's "Phoenix Forum" speaker series.
Rove was part of the Bush administration scheme to sell the American public on the invasion of Iraq with the fantasy of Saddam Hussein's possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
As we all know, there were no WMDs, yet the invasion took place, and as a result more than 4,000 U.S. service personnel died, an estimated 100,000 Iraqi civilians lost their lives, and it's cost the American taxpayer close to one billion trillion dollars so far. (See below)
So why are people paying $75 a head to hear Rove's thoughts on the midterm elections? Why are SRP, APS, FreeportMcMoRan Copper and Gold, and the Arizona Republic sponsoring this shameful event?
I suggested in my previous post that someone should be protesting Rove's appearance, nonviolently of course.
Now, Arizona's End the War Coalition has announced that it will be staging a "citizens arrest" of Rove on November 9 in front of the Sheraton from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"Bring your handcuffs, crime tape and we'll have some too," reads the e-mail blast EWC just sent out.
The coalition cites a number of crimes they believe Rove to be guilty of, including murder, treason, election fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. You can read the announcement below.
Since the EWC is made up of such peacenik groups as the Arizona Alliance for Peace and Justice, Arizona Institute for Peace Education and Research, Code Pink Phoenix, Grandmothers for Peace, Progressive Democrats of America Phoenix, Veterans for Peace-Phoenix, and Women in Black Phoenix, I suspect the protest will be vocal and non-violent, as it should be.
If justice reigned, Karl Rove would be wearing a red jumpsuit and scrubbing toilets in Gitmo alongside Dick Cheney. As it does not, at least some Phoenicians can make Rove feel unwelcome when he burns through town to pick up a check.Arrest Karl Rove!
