I know recalled, disgraced former state Senate President Russell Pearce is a liar, but if all is as it seems, this situation is a new low, even for Pearce.

Late this afternoon, I posted a blog about a fundraiser that ex-Justice of the Peace Lester Pearce and his brother Russell have scheduled for this Friday at Cave Creek's Buffalo Chip Saloon.

Listed as one of the "Special Guests" attending is none other than Republican Arizona Congressman David Schweikert, who is currently campaigning to receive his party's nomination in the Sixth Congressional District.

I found this odd, as I knew Schweikert had endorsed GOPer Steve Chucri for Maricopa County Supervisor in District 2. Lester Pearce is running against Chucri in the Republican primary for supervisor, you see.

When I called Schweikert spokesman Chris Baker, he denied that Schweikert would be going, and said the congressman had not endorsed either Pearce brother and had not given permission for his name to be used on the fundraiser's flier, posted by Lester on his Facebook page.

"We thought it was strange," Baker said of the Buffalo Chip notice. "We have no idea why they did that."

He also stated that, "Schweikert has not endorsed Russell Pearce nor has he been asked by Pearce for an endorsement."

And yet, in a June 2 post to Pearce's Facebook page, Pearce proudly touts Schweikert's nod.

Pearce writes:

"I am pleased to announce that I have been endorsed by Congressman David Schweikert in this election.

"Congressman Schweikert has been a dedicated public servant who understands the dangerous fiscal situation our country is in and has been working hard to try to reduce our runaway spending. Congressman Schweikert has also authored a balanced budget amendment to the constitution which would not only require congress to balance the budget, but would also limit spending to 18% of GDP and would require a 2/3 vote to increase taxes.

"I believe that government at all levels need to be more fiscally responsible and spend within its means. I also believe in lower taxes. I will be a vigilant advocate for you, the tax payer, in the state Senate."

I've exposed Pearce's lies about his church, his own resume, his relationship with neo-Nazi baby-killer J.T. Ready over and over again.

But would Pearce be so bold as to swipe a sitting congressman's endorsement?

I e-mailed Baker a link to Pearce's Facebook page, noting that Pearce obviously believed he had snagged Schweikert's backing for this state Senate election.

"I see that," Baker wrote back. "Have no idea where he got that impression from."

I've e-mailed Pearce seeking comment. I'll let you know if I receive a reply.

Currently, Russell Pearce's campaign is boasting a major outrage a day. It looks to me like an epic tailspin, with a correction being near impossible this close to primary day, August 28.

I've always been convinced Pearce would lose this comeback bid. Now I'm wondering, by how much?
