We had an epiphany the other day: modern music thats heavy on the woe-is-me whine or anything thats cute is, well, not good. Agent Ribbons, who are like a rocking, what-the-crap-are-you-looking-at version of Vermillion Lies, is pretty much the opposite of these things.
The bands sound is firmly rooted in retro, from the old-timey cabaret noises like those made by a toy piano to early 80s garage-y tendencies. And its all backed by Natalie Gordons bordering-on-quivering vocals that sound as if theyll crumble along with her heart during the tune Boy with the Wooden Lips that the Sacramento-based trio features on its awesome 2006 album On Time Travel and Romance.
Kepi Ghoulie, Mas O Menos, and Liam and the Ladies open their gig at the Trunk Space.
