Since 2004, Phoenician Ryan Avery’s done weird, artsy, generally loud things in public (except for two years he spent in Portland on a Mormon mission). He also creates visual art and recordings of not just his music projects but also performance art and stream-of-consciousness audio.
These words don’t do justice to all things Ryan Avery, whether he’s your cup of decaffeinated tea or not. Fortunately, the 2008 documentary Hi My Name Is Ryan, which has played a shit-ton of film festivals but has not screened in the Valley in years, shows at FilmBar Saturday, February 1, following a live performance from The Drunk and Horny Orchestra, a band Avery is in. The Arizona Filmmaker Showcase evening will conclude with a screening of Disregard. It all begins at 9:30 p.m. at 815 North Second Street. Admission is $9 for the 21-and-older event.
