On a windy November night in Phoenix a decade ago, one of the sporting worlds greatest dynasties crumbled to dust. More specifically, the New York Yankees saw their World Series dominance come to a fateful end at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who staged a come-from-behind win in the seventh game of the 2001 fall classic. There was much celebration in the Valley after the win, which brought our city its only major sports championship, and the party is still continuing. The D-Backs will celebrate the tenth anniversary of their epic win during the World Championship Reunion Weekend, bringing together the players who were part of that fateful team a decade ago. Luis Gonzalez, Mark Gracie, Jay Bell, and other players from the 2001 roster will be in the house at Chase Field, 401 East Jefferson Street, on Saturday, September 10, while the Arizona Diamondbacks take on the San Diego Padres. Plastic replicas of their championship rings will be handed out to the first 10,000 folks entering the ballpark, and World Series moments will air in between innings.
Sat., Sept. 10, 5:10 p.m., 2011
