Drawing Lessons

Most artists have to wait tables at some point in their careers in order to pay the bills. College students learn similar lessons through years of scrounging up couch-change for books and stretching restaurant leftovers to make an entire week’s worth of pitifully tiny meals.

Art students get the worst of both worlds – which is why the cash prizes offered as part of Paradise Valley Community College’s annual Juried Student Art Exhibition are so coveted. The exhibit spotlights the best works created by the college’s visual arts students and hand-selected by juror Joan Baron of Artspace Scottsdale. Though there’s no official theme, art professor David Bradley says that this year’s entries included more figurative works than abstracts.
