Beyoncé will hold court at this year's Super Bowl halftime show as the planet’s preeminent pop star. And up until a few weeks ago, we would've assumed members of her former group, Destiny’s Child, would spend the day noshing on seven-layer dip like the rest of us. But, the pop diva announced she'll bring her old pals onstage with her. Still, we wonder: How does one golden-voiced talent break out into superstardom? Get some insight when the Broadway version of Dreamgirls comes to Mesa Tuesday, January 22.
The tale of The Dreamettes, starry-eyed girls who start out as backup vocalists to a '60s R&B star and grow into their own spotlight as The Dreams, is inspired by the real-life saga of The Supremes and Diana Ross. While the story is fictionalized, the songs of this hit musical and its associated productions have racked up very real Tony, Grammy, and Oscar accolades.
