There’s a reason why Americans love the TV show Mythbusters, and it’s not because we’re all gung-ho about scientific experiments (yawn). There’s nothing we love more than watching shit explode, as evidenced not only by the show’s ratings but by our yearly tradition of setting fire to the sky to mark our territory’s independence.

This year brings no shortage of fireworks displays on Monday, July 4, including the free Fabulous Phoenix Fourth celebration taking place at 6 p.m. at Steele Indian School Park, 300 East Indian School Road in Phoenix. The family-friendly festival has a retro feel, with classic tunes from Come Back Buddy and Uptown Angels, plus a kids’ play area and an armed forces ceremony complete with an ear-splitting F-16 flyover.
