For The Records
Crate diggers, record collectors, and vinyl junkies unite in pressed plastic pleasure when the Beat Swap Meet opens its doors for one afternoon of musical madness. A regular event in Los Angeles, Beat Swap Meet is the brainchild of Robby Powers. This is his first foray into the Valley, and anyone with records to sell -- and certainly those looking to buy -- should attend. The event isn't just a DJ thing, although a handful of local DJs will spin during the proceedings. “That’s usually the assumption," Powers says. "But we’re stretched outside that genre." Powers adds that he'll sell rap, hip-hop, soul, funk, and jazz albums at the event.
Those who want to unload some albums can register for a six-foot table ($50) by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org. But don’t bring those pesky CDs with you. This meet’s only about music that’s recorded on vinyl, Powers says.
