In Measure for Measure, Shakespeare wrote, "What's mine is yours, and what is yours is mine." This weekend, that spirit of give-and-take becomes notably one-sided: What's his really is ours -- but it doesn't cost us a thing -- when ASU West's Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance Department presents "Shakespeare Under the Stars." On Saturday, September 27, members of several local troupes -- including the Southwest Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare Theatre and Theatrescape -- act out the Bard's scenes on three stages. Valley students participating in the Utah Shakespearean Festival's High School Conference lend their talents as well, along with strolling minstrels, costumed jugglers and jousters.
"This free event has become a Valley favorite," says Jeff Kennedy, associate artistic director of ASU West's IAP department. "The festival atmosphere will abound with Renaissance music, costumes and performers."
Spectators are encouraged to bring chairs and picnic baskets to the performance, set for 7 p.m. at ASU West, 4701 West Thunderbird. For more information, call 602-543-2787. - Jill Koch
