Kids say the darndest things, especially when they’re in the midst of an ultra-intense video game death match. To wit: Log onto either XBOX Live or the PlayStation Network to play an online match of Halo Reach or Call of Duty, and you’re likely to get an earful of expletive-laced taunts and dissings from energy drink-fueled preteens. Both your skills and your mother’s good name are fair game, as pint-sized gaming gods pwn you into oblivion.

Similar circumstances will occur -- albeit in-person -- during Devastation 2011, a massive gaming event and expo taking place this weekend at the Phoenix Convention Center. Joystick Jedi will unleash their insults while competing in more than two dozen tournaments and competitions featuring such sequels as Gears of War 3, Madden NFL 12, and Street Fighter IV. Serious scrilla is up for grabs, as more than $25,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded.

The four-day event kicks off on Thursday with a special preview night, and competitions begin on Friday.
