Some ideas sell themselves to their target audience. There’s not much you need to tell a child about an ice-cream sandwich, and there’s not much you need to tell the elderly about all-you-can-eat buffets. Friday, August 15’s Beer Olympics at Tempe Marketplace fits the same mold: If the name catches your interest, then chances are good you’re the target audience and chances are good you’ll like it.
The event will feature food samplings from Tempe Marketplace restaurants, different varieties of beer, and a variety of competitions to tie the whole thing together. Competitive events range from flip cup to quarters to corn hole to giant Jenga (though no games will be played with alcohol) with a side competition for the best-costumed team.
Admission is $12 for individuals — and buys three drink tickets — or $48 for four-person teams. Tickets are available online through www.ticketfly.com. The Olympics run from 8 to 11 p.m. at 2000 East Rio Salado Parkway.
