Word on the street about Arizona Theatre Companys new production of The Glass Menagerie is that it is not your grandparents Tennessee Williams.
Apparently, director Juliette Carrillo has deconstructed this famous memory play, inserting some of the authors stage directions into actors dialogues and dressing the set with period-correct furnishings a little at a time, as the story progresses. Its an unconventional approach to a story many of us know well, a story in which Tom Wingfield recalls his sister and his mother, who'd been abandoned by his father some years before.
This production is part of ATCs AMERICA PLAYS! Celebrating Great American Stories series, an initiative designed to engage audiences with activities that enhance their understanding of a classic play.
