Hi, Robot

It’s not often that you encounter a gallery that lists “featured artists” next to “high scores” on its website, but Cade Gallery is not your typical art house. It’s an old-school arcade as well as a site for fancy wall hangings. Not surprisingly, the works on display tend to reflect the aesthetic of nostalgic memes and fan art.

Ken Tanaka's “Wonderland” exhibit embraces a theme endemic to the Internet generation: The free-floating weirdness that packs just enough WTF cachet to get you voted-up on YouTube. Tanaka juxtaposes everyday sayings with animals, objects and robots depicted in mixed media. Most of his paintings depict the Voltron style robots Tanaka built his geeky rep on, but a few also hide clever pokes at the burdens of being superhuman.
