It's a Sign
Laura Spalding Best's latest works are all about connections.
Through a painted series of scenes depicting street lights, telephone poles, wiring and signage along Roosevelt Row, Best explores communication through city dwellers' shared language of reds, greens, one-ways, and don't-walks. Painted on the back sides of aluminum traffic signs, these works make up her new exhibition, “7th Street to 7th Avenue.”
Halt Gallery presents the exhibition at the shipping container turned pop-up Hot Box Gallery, on which Best has painted a new mural depicting a mirage-like desert oasis. Take a look during the show's closing reception from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, July 4, at 408 East Roosevelt Street. Admission is free. Visit www.haltgallery.com for more.
