One of the biggest bummers about a relatively new city like Phoenix is the absence of established markets, à la New York City, Tokyo, Mexico City, and even places like Kumasi, Ghana. But what those on-cultural-steroids haunts may not have is a countrified, chill-out gathering featuring Native American, Latino, and Southwestern fine artists and savvy crafters. The second annual Cave Creek Indian Market – taking place this weekend at Stagecoach Village – can boast all of that with its six-section, 60-artist-plus gathering place that will also feature grub and traditional Native dancers. And there’s this bonus: Unlike bigger-city markets, you’re probably not going to find body parts for sale.
