Blame a bad economy, or our own geeky tendencies -- in current culture, it's common to stretch what we have and squeeze every bit of usefulness from it. It is from this resourcefulness -- call it MacGyverism -- that "economy of means: toward humility in contemporary sculpture" was born.

The exhibition, on view through Sunday, April 29, at SMoCA, is a collection of sculptural minimalism and streamlined modernism. Artists including Ara Dymond, Felipe Cohen, Tony Feher, and Beth Campbell allowed available materials to determine form and function in their sculptures, examining "the subtle ways in which our physical world enables us to remain connected and interdependent."

Tuesdays-Sundays; Tue., March 13, noon. Starts: Jan. 21. Continues through April 29, 2012
