Not many authors warrant a highly publicized book-release party. J.K. Rowling, of course, for her Harry Potter series. Possibly some of those supermarket-aisle novelists like Dan Brown, John Grisham, and Dean Koontz. And if Hemingway were still alive and producing, perhaps him, though that shotgun-to-the-face incident kind of puts a damper on any potential shindig.

Closer to home is Valley rock-star scribe Stephenie Meyer, author of the most-ages-friendly series of teen/vampire/werewolf novels Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse. So anticipated is Breaking Dawn, the final tome in the Twilight series, that Changing Hands Bookstore is throwing a midnight-release party for the novel. The event will feature live music, “gory treats,” a fashion show, and more. (At press time, Meyer was not scheduled to appear.)

Admission is free. To receive a copy of Breaking Dawn at midnight, you’ll need to shell out $22.99 plus tax.
Fri., Aug. 1, 9 p.m.-midnight, 2008
