Mike Herrera made a name for himself as the front-man of the Bremerton, WA three-piece punk band MxPx. The band which originally formed in 1993 when the original members of the group vocalist/bassist Mike Herrera, drummer Yuri Ruley and guitarist Andy Husted were still in high school. The band quickly became a staple of the alternative music scene of the 90s, thanks in large part to alt radio hits like Chick Magnet and Im Ok, Youre Ok and frequent appearances on The Warped Tour. While MxPx still continue to tour and release new albums this hasnt stopped Mike Herrera from pursuing some side projects. The most notable of those projects is the band Tumbledown, in which Herrera trades the pop-punk sound of MxPx for rockabilly and country, a style that Herrera says hes been writing music for from an early age. Tumbledown recently released their self-titled debut album on the record label End Sounds and have been touring around the country in support of the new album. But the good news from MxPx fans is that while touring with his new band Mike Herrera has managed to occasionally squeeze in a solo acoustic show here and there featuring old familiar MxPx songs. One of which just so happens to be happening here in the Valley during one of Tumbledowns off days.
