Moving Experience

Unlike modern art where viewers struggle to see anything real in the abstract forms, it's easy to see the movement in Eric Bowman's works. The Oregon-based artist's collection “Off Key, On Point,” inspired by music and dance, features performers literally caught in the act.

The impressionistic oil paintings convey action, as if the figurative ballet dancers really spin, the singers feel the lyrics, and the trumpet players actually push air out of their lungs. It's not surprising that Bowman used live models as muses for some of the works.

"People should come out to view this show to pause and reflect on what performing art is, and why we not only need it, but that we should revere it and those who work so hard to achieve it," Bowman says. "My desire is to draw attention to the beauty behind the performance."

Meet Bowman at an artist’s reception from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, June 9.
Thu., June 9, 6-9 p.m., 2011
