Fortunately, Herb Gardening for Beginners at Desert Botanical Garden doesn’t consist of us telling stories about episodes like that time Herb Gardening took us to see Hal Holbrook as Mark Twain. Instead, it’s a class that includes mystical, medicinal, and culinary lore of these tiny, intensely aromatic veggies that enhance soups, salads, cocktails, cupcakes, and whatnot. Or, for the rest of you: those powders and dried leaves in classic autumn neutrals, crumbling in their kitchen jars, looking as though they’d be a lot of fun to smoke (but don’t!).
Thursday, June 19, at 1201 North Galvin Parkway, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Pam Perry, who we daresay never even met Mr. Gardening, will conduct you through how to grow your own (herbs, people -- herbs!) in our low desert climate. Admission is $38; it’s $30 for garden members. Call 480-481-8188 or visit www.dbg.org/education-programs/classes-trips.
