Unless you saw the 1988 film version of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels within the past week, it’s hard to tell who’s conning whom in the intricate, goofy, romantic plot that translates splendidly to the musical stage. Multiple Valley troupes have chosen this season to present the 2005 Broadway success, and, through Saturday, November 30, it’s Hale Centre Theatre’s turn to revel in the slapstick and improbability.
It’ll be interesting to see the gaudy French Riviera packed onto Hale’s smallish in-the-round stage, and choreographer Cambrian James will undoubtedly have both predators and victims shimmying and grinding to the tropical, topical score in what Hale describes as a “PG-13” manner. The cast includes local faves Alaina Beauloye, Israel Jimenez, and several stars of last summer’s peppy Damn Yankees. Check out the action at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 7, at 50 West Page Avenue in Gilbert. For tickets, $16 to $26, call 480-497-1181 or visit www.haletheatrearizona.com.
Wednesdays, 7 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 3 p.m.; Thursdays, 7 p.m.; Mon., Nov. 25, 7 p.m.; Tue., Nov. 26, 7 p.m. Starts: Oct. 30. Continues through Nov. 30, 2013
