Get up off your knees, Gaytown. Lent is now ovah! And since that hoary, religious gangster, the Roman Catholic Church, considers pride a sin, we'll create our own fabulous Capital Vices just in time for the Phoenix Pride Parade. The underlying themes for the event will certainly include, ahem, anal sloth, coitus lust, glitter greed, glow-stick gluttony, diva wrath, and of course, penis envy. Colorful and sensational handmade floats; rollicking LGBT groups waving their flags, body parts and petitions; and iconic Gay Pride royalty Mister Nikki Kidd and Miss Diamond Dallas will part Steele Indian School Park and pass the 10,000 cheering spectators like Moses cleaving the Red Sea. Ultimately, the pot of gold at the end of this rainbow trek is the 30th Phoenix Pride Festival, a time of celebration, recognition, and salvation in this sweet land of (almost) liberty.
