In Woody Allen's comeback thriller Match Point, former tennis pro Chris, played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, debates the merits of being good versus being lucky -- with luck being the ultimate determinant of success. The women competing in the third annual Goldwater Women’s Tennis Classic this week are probably hoping for a winning combination of the two.

More than 60 pro players will battle for ranking points, and a last chance to qualify for the Australian Open. Though you won’t see top ranking players Caroline Wozniacki or Maria Sharapova (they’re currently duking it out in international year-end championships), you will catch up-and-coming contenders, like last year’s top-seeded Goldwater competitor Melanie Oudin, who went on to the US Open’s quarter finals.

The weeklong tourney also will include a handful of special events, such as a fashion show, player party, auction, and luncheon.
