Snow? Tony "Scarface" Montaña would bury his face in it, but we're not talking about blow. Sonik magazine's "Snow" party on Thursday, December 16, at Devil's Martini, 4175 North Goldwater Boulevard in Scottsdale, boasts two tons of real snow -- the natural, non-homicidal-episode-inducing kind. The party includes six snow machines, a DJ, 2-for-1 Stoli/Red Bull drinks, ice sculptures by artist John Fultz, a holiday laser show, a winter ice bar, and a "white fashion show," featuring couture dresses by KD Fashions, custom-made for the event. "This is the fourth Christmas party we've done," says Sonik publisher Randy Phillips. "Every year, it's been getting bigger. This year we wanted to make a holiday theme with a contemporary feel. It's gonna be a hell of a party." The "Snow" falls at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 for guys, $5 for the ladies. Proceeds benefit Toys for Tots. Call 480-947-7171. -- Niki D'Andrea

SHOW ME HOW
While the Valley's so-called comedy colleges promise wanna-bes the secrets of the trade, it seems only Chris and Jim McLennan truly know how to build a better comic: Put 'em onstage! On Friday, December 17, the McLennans' Trash City Productions stages one night of uproarious tribute to their weekly standup competition with an Ultimate Comedy SlamFest beginning at 7:30 p.m. at The Sets, 93 East Southern in Tempe. The show features some of the best local amateur talent with special guest comics Erik Miller (pictured), Matt Martin, and Comedy SlamFest I winner James Hoenscheidt. The $10 admission includes one free drink. Call 602-953-2728. -- Joe Watson
Where else but at Tinseltown?
Whether lip-synching Berlin's "Take My Breath Away" into a hairbrush or popping and locking with our sixth-grade crew, we were always down with acting out for the adoration of our peers. The stakes are much higher at "Making of a Star" on Saturday, December 18, at Tinseltown Tavern, 2017 North Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale, where 20 contestants -- 10 male and 10 female -- will have their talents, personality, and overall look evaluated by a panel of celebrity judges, including fashionista Pol Atteu and the Valley's own DJ Tsunami. The winner and runner-up each get a modeling contract and a professional photo shoot from Scottsdale's Network International Models & Talent agency, and camera crews will also be present, grabbing footage for a reality show on the modeling industry that's in the works. Show starts at 7 p.m. Call 480-945-6279.-- Benjamin Leatherman
