Times are dark, people. An old Chinese proverb advises that its better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. So quit cursing and see a wee, warm exhibition on Roosevelt Row called Soot: Handmade Candle Caddies.
Alex Ozers, who has a piece in the show, says his riveted copper and brass tea light vessel is meant to look like a tiny campfire. And it does. Says Ozers, The texture process involves bludgeoning the metal against real salvaged steel [and] the resulting texture is sort of a reflection of the steel's rust and wear.
Metalsmith Tedd Mcdonahs steel-pillar stand is the shows largest. Its hand-forged and shaped using traditional blacksmithing methods. Also be sure to check out John Ebingers elegant candleholder thats a mesquite, maple and walnut sculpture thats conceptually basic and totally lovely.
Check out the work from six of our very own homegrown artists each candle caddie is available for holiday purchase (hint, hint) through the end of the year at MADE art boutique.
