Wanda Sykes really does do it all. She's trying on a variety of gigs in her Comedy Central show Wanda Does It, including Chinese chef and prostitute. Nothing seems untouchable for Sykes, whose brand of snarky humor has given her labels she doesn't want. When Stuff magazine recently asked the comedienne how "sassy" she really was, Sykes replied, "I keep getting the sassy thing. I just have a low tolerance for bullshit." Sykes must see a lot of bullshit, then, given her propensity for making fun of politicians, relationships, and anything else that provides fodder for the black-humor mill. Expect supreme sarcasm and embellishment from Sykes as she brings her "Cotton T-Shirt" standup comedy tour to the Celebrity Theatre, 440 North 32nd Street, on Sunday, November 14. Tickets are $31.50. If you enjoy goofy genius, it's time for a dose of the Slow Poisoners. The duo's music can't be crammed into a category, although offbeat garage pop/country/roots/ragtime/beat poetry/dork rock pretty much covers it. The band's latest CD, Melodrama, contains catchy song titles like "She Loved the Stars Too Fondly to Be Fearful of the Night" and "The Girl Who Lives Inside the House That Never Was," while their theatrical live shows have prompted grown men to boogie in the buff onstage. The Slow Poisoners play at 9:15 p.m. Monday, November 15, at Hollywood Alley, 2610 West Baseline in Mesa. Call 480-820-7117. -- Niki D'Andrea
