The Accidental Tourist

Photojournalist Alison Wright nearly died in a grisly 2000 bus accident in Laos, but what didn’t kill her apparently made her stronger. Wright spent the next seven years exploring Asia and the tenets of Buddhism, performing feats of personal courage, and “learning to breathe,” a term that inspired the title of her new memoir. The tome sports the stamps of approval of the Dalai Lama, who wrote the foreward, and Richard Gere, a shaky endorser, perhaps, but one who makes up for his detriments with shrill enthusiasm.
