It may have lesbians, dance breaks and Johanna Carlisle, but whats really got people talking about Stray Cat Theatres production of Learn to Be Latina is its disclaimer. No one under 17, it seems, will be allowed to see Enrique Uruetas show biz send-up unless accompanied by an adult.
What, besides a handful of fucks and some randy racial slurs, can the reason for such strict restrictions be? One thing we can be sure of: Artistic director Ron Mays version of this dark comedy wont be your grandmothers take on racial stereotyping in the pop music industry. The show follows the story of a young Lebanese girl who must pretend to be a Latina in order to cut a pop record.
