The Spirit of '76
Excepting the Rocky series blah! we think underdog movies rule. Seabiscuit, Hoop Dreams, The Karate Kid, The Breakfast Club, The Bad News Bears, Dodgeball, The Shawshank Redemption . . .
Obviously, then, our palates are primed for Bottle Shock, a fresh indie that sounds like a cross between Sideways and Rudy. Featuring familiar names like Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman, and Rachael Taylor, the flick tells the true story of Gustavo Brambila, a Napa nobody whose Chardonnay trumped those of the major-league winos at the 1976 Judgment of Paris blind tasting.
A wine reception precedes at 6:30 at nearby Fire Sky Resort & Spa, 4925 South Scottsdale Road. The cost for both is $55. Call 480-551-9769 or see www.localwineevents.com.
