Stanley Kubrick had it right. In 2001: A Space Odyssey, he showed that the dawn of man occurred when a bunch of ape-like creatures figured out how to use tools (yes, that's what that Act One was about).
He's not the only artist to take the role of the tool seriously. In fact, there are a few folks in town who used the tool as their muse, and you can see their work at Night Gallery as a part of the Tool exhibition.
Leave it to a bunch of artists to create structures out of tools, clever visual tributes to devices, and tasteful literal representations of the things that separate us from monkeys.
Trust us, it will make a lot more sense than Kubrick's film.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 6. Continues through Jan. 30, 2011
