You might already be familiar with "Lausd," the track off Jurassic 5's 2000 classic Quality Control, but you probably don't know what the hell the song title means. It's an acronym for Los Angeles Unified Skills District, which is also the name of J-5 rapper Akil's new, totally underground side project. L.A.U.S.D. is composed of Akil, MCs Pupa Don, Filthy Rich, Ching, and L Don, and DJs 3rd Degree and Whip. It's an all-star collection of L.A.'s subterranean hip-hop artists.

L.A.U.S.D. is hitting town on Friday, July 23, playing at the Old Brickhouse alongside DJs Radar, Emile, and Senbad. It's an all-ages party with a $15 cover, and doors open at 7 p.m. It'll be a tasty appetizer for the KRS-One show at the Brickhouse the next night, when Drunken Immortals open for the legendary MC. Hip-hop hooray!
