Where can you find a fix of pure, unadulterated sensual pleasure for the insanely low, low price of $6? You know, without habit-forming side effects or the use of needles? Try the Trunk Space, where some of the region's top up-and-coming ska and surf-rock acts will convene for a night of frantic energy-release and midweek abandon. Conceived by Valley live-music gadfly DJ oneboycircus, the show will also afford fans a crash course of sorts in ska/reggae literacy. Opening the event will be DJ oneboycircus himself, followed by Phoenix threesome Liam and the Ladies, who practice the "2tone" style of ska popularized by such '80s legends as Madness and The Specials. Next up are Tucson's The Boogie Nazis, a high-energy surf-fusion band in the mold of Los Straitjackets. Finally, there's the headliner: The Dendrites!, a rambunctious, nine-strong ska/reggae/surf instrumental outfit from Colorado that boasts a "wrecking ball four-piece horn section," in the band's own modest estimation. If you can't catch them at the Trunk, The Dendrites! are also playing the next day at the Sail Inn in Tempe. Mmm, that's good ska.
