Spring showers may bring flowers, but with mostly warm weather, the Valley comes alive with outdoor festivals around the same time. One of the most prominent is the Scottsdale Arts Festival, considered one of the nation’s premier art events. Nearly 200 jury-selected artists from Canada and the United States will exhibit everything from kitsch to fine art, gourmet eats to luscious libations at Scottsdale Civic Center Park. Live entertainment, a kid’s center, and free admission to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art bolster the fun. The festival this year also welcomes the debut of HappyGift, a 30-foot interactive sculpture by Los Angeles artist duo FriendsWithYou, complete with a bounce house that's suitable for all ages.

Catch all the art happenings from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Civic Center Park, 7380 East Second Street. One-day passes are $8; two-day passes are $12. Students and seniors pay $5. Children 12 and younger get in free. Visit www.scottsdaleartsfestival.org.

March 14-15, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sun., March 16, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., 2014
